WRITING FOR THE MEDIA


This one-day workshop will show participants how to write clear and effective media copy. The program focuses specifically on press release
writing and you will be shown how to write and target your releases to catch the interest and attention of reporters and editors.



The workshop is highly practical and participants will have the opportunity to write at least 2 releases in class. Particular emphasis is placed on
developing ability to apply the learning points in a hands-on way, and the releases will be critiqued in a constructive and informative way.



The course covers:


The purpose and place of a news release
Structuring an effective release
Good writing style
Developing strong angles
Editing and targeting the release


The course also covers other media materials such as by-lined articles, pitch letters and feature writing and delegates are encouraged to bring
samples of work they have done, and in particular, outlines of stories they are planning in the future. All writing examples will focus on getting
your message across in a clear and concise way while at the same time keeping the reader interested in what you have to say.
